Continuing Education Requirements for Tax Professionals
Continuing Education Requirements for Tax Professionals
Tax professionals hoping to become Registered Tax Return Preparers must complete 15 hours of continuing education (two hours of ethics, 3 hours of federal tax law updates, and 10 hours of other federal tax law) by December 31, 2013. All credits must be obtained from IRS-approved continuing education providers, and once the designation of Registered Tax Return Preparer is awarded, these same continuing education requirements must be met each year.
Enrolled Agents and Enrolled Retirement Plan Agents must complete 72 hours of continuing education every three years – a minimum of 16 hours per year, two of which must be on ethics. These, too, must be earned from IRS-approved continuing education providers.
Drake Software’s e-Training Center (ETC) provides continuing education opportunities for all tax professionals. New Webinars are added each month with topics ranging from avoiding ethical violations to divorce and separation, and all are IRS-approved. You do not have to be a Drake Software customer to participate. For more information, or to start earning your continuing education requirements today, visit the Drake e-Training Center online.
