Electronic Filing
|
|
Drake Software is a leader in electronic filing, and one of the first companies to
participate in electronic filing. We continue to be one of the largest filers
of electronic returns. With both state and federal transmission capabilities,
we are proud to say our software has been used to successfully transmit more
returns than any other commercial software package.
|
For the 2008 tax season, Drake Software transmitted:
- More than 8.1 million federal accepted returns
- More than 7.2 million state accepted returns
|
|
With Drake, you get everything you need to e-file individual and business returns, both federal
and state. A secure server processes your e-filed returns, which you can send through
Drake to the IRS and appropriate states. Up to 49 states can be e-filed simultaneously.

Use Your Internet Connection to E-File
In order to help you cut costs, we offer a program called Internet Electronic
Filing. We have created a client/server application that lets you transmit
files over the Internet using your local Internet Service Provider. You can file
returns electronically with no long distance charges.
With one mouse click, you can transmit IRS files, pick up acknowledgements, send email
support questions, and pick up support answers online.
The application is very easy to use and transmits files quickly, saving local service access time.

How to Become an E-Filer
To offer electronic filing to your clients, you must apply for an Electronic
Filing Identification Number (EFIN). First, complete Form 8633.
You may submit the application by mail or online if you are registered with
IRS e-services. (If you are an ERO who files more than 100 returns per year, you
are eligible for IRS e-services. Visit www.irs.gov to register.) If you prefer to
print a copy of the form and submit your application by mail, direct it to:
Internal Revenue Service
Andover Submission Processing Center
Attn: EFU Acceptance
Testing Stop 983
P.O. Box 4099
Woburn, MA 01888-4099
|
Since it may take the IRS up to 45 days to process your application, you should
apply before December 1 in order to begin e-filing in January. (Note: It may be faster
to apply online.)
